7 Fun Things To Do With Your Dog This Fall

The leaves are falling and the weather is cooling down, which means there are a whole bunch of new activities you can do with your dog this fall season. Autumn offers plenty of stuff to do that you can’t take advantage of in any other season. Here are seven of our favorite things to do with our dogs in fall.

1. Visit An Apple Orchard

The apples are ripe for the picking, and a visit to the orchard is a great way to get outside and enjoy the cool, crisp, fall air. Many orchards allow dogs, but be sure to check your local orchard’s rules about dogs before you go. Apple slices can also help clean your pup’s teeth and freshen his breath, but make sure you remove the core and seeds as they can be toxic and a choking hazard.

2. Trick-Or-Treating

Halloween is a fun time to dress your pup, so long as he’s comfortable with it, and head out door-to-door with the kids for some trick-or-treating. Make sure you have some extra dog treats, too, for trick-or-treater dogs who come to your door.

3. Go Pumpkin Picking

There are a lot of pumpkin patches that allow you to visit with your pooch, but as with apple orchards, check your local pumpkin patch’s rule before you show up. Your pup can help you sniff out the best pumpkin for making an awesome dog-themed jack-o-lantern.

4. Eat Some Pumpkin

Pumpkin flavor is everywhere this time of year, and it’s a great thing for you and your pup. Now that you’ve picked your pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, have a slice of pumpkin pie and try adding some pumpkin puree to your dog’s diet. It’s full of fiber and great for digestion, just make sure you don’t overdo it. A few spoonfuls will give your pup that fall pumpkin flavor, and his tummy will thank you.

5. Tail Gating Party

Football season is starting up, and your dog will be one of the few guests at the tail gating party who actually has a tail. Dogs will love the chance to get outside with you and friends and maybe sneak a morsel away from the grill while they’re at it. And be sure to bring your dog’s favorite ball, too, so he can get in on the athletic activities.

6. Take A Nature Hike

With the leaves changing colors, it’s a beautiful time of year to be outside. Your dog has a limited range of colors that he can see, but the fall season brings out all sorts of new smells that will have your pup just as excited to go for a nature hike. Put on some fall clothes and hit the trails with your pup. And if you’re in a big city and nature walks are hard to come by, you can always look for a fun event to get outside, like Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt. It’s a dog walk and festival that raises money for shelters and rescue organizations in your area.

7. Go On Vacation

Very few people go on vacation during the fall season. School starts up again and people prepare for the holiday rush. But you can take advantage of that because travel and accommodation prices are usually pretty low. Find your favorite dog-friendly hotels, plan some activities, and get away from the hustle and bustle for a while.
